La Vigna si San Martino di Argiano
This wine is named after Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song". What further example of winemaker Giampaolo Chiettini's genius do you need? Immigrant Wine is a brilliant, curious Tuscan white IGT wine produced from Müller Thurgau grapes grown organically in a vineyard in the Vicchio di Mugello area at 370 meters above sea level. The grapes are harvested in the second half of September which then see fermentation with their indigenous yeasts. A short breeding in steel vat on fine lees follows until the wine is bottled in the spring following the harvest. The wine is precise with good energy and a nice volume. Showing nice floral tones, some elderflower and herbal qualities wrapped up with a nice green apple bite. We have a quarter of the 480 bottle total production.

This monopole is a southwest-facing vineyard slope of just two acres. The vineyard was planted in 1964, but the first historic record dates back to 30th April 1245! The vineyard was dedicated by the Count of Veldenz to the nearby convent from which it took its name “Helenenkloster” (St. Helene’s convent.) It offers a rather aromatic nose made of vineyard peach, apricot blossom and fine spicy elements. The wine is subtly creamy yet also beautifully light-footed on the palate and leaves a direct feel of herbs, fruits and spices in the animating and persistent finish. Flavours of apricot add a touch of weight to the aftertaste.

After the spring frost affected 2021 (see grapes blended with Roussanne, Grenache and Syrah to produce ‘Le Duc’), Simon didn’t only lose a large percentage of fruit that year, he lost approximately 20% of the Viognier vines! Just when you thought this man's luck couldn’t get any worse! But the L’Invite 2022 displays more of the richer and classic Viognier characters than is usual from this extraordinarily high and stunning terroir of schist with large pebbles of basalt mixed in. These characters marry well with the awesome minerality this site constantly shows. An absolute stunner.

Domaine des Trinités
Possibly the last Rosé to be produced at Trinités? The wine has always been produced for the home market, for the restaurants and bars, in all the major cities. But since the market for such in the last few years has dried up/been somewhat difficult, vigneron Simon Coulshaw has decided to take a break for a while. This 2020 is unlike any previous effort, mostly explained below in Tamlyn Currin's note for jancisrobinson.com. It really is truly wonderful Rosé with real minerality, precision and class. an absolute stunner. 40% Cinsault, 40% Grenache Noir, 20% Mourvèdre. Hand-picked, organically and biodynamically farmed grapes. 100% saignée ie no pressing, just bleeding from the tanks. Winemaker Simon Coulshaw points out that the distinct difference in colour between the 2019 and 2020 (the latter being distinctly lighter in colour) is purely down to the maturity of the anthocynanins in the grapes. In 2019 he left the grapes for an hour and the colour was already dark; in 2020 it spent three or four hours and still didn't throw much colour. Bone dry (less than 0.5 g RS). "This is an outstanding rosé. If only Languedoc producers would sit up and take notice – this is what you can do with rosé. Real wine. Real depth, real texture, acidity so full and exciting and ripe that it made me want to helter skelter, go boogie on Brighton Pier, lick seashells dipped in raspberry sherbet, make cherry bombs filled with lime sorbet and eat them sitting fully clothed in the sea with salt on my tongue and fingers and toes. All of which sounds like fun fun fun, but don't be deceived. This is a serious wine, framed in spice and pink-grapefruit-peel bitterness. Very Good Value (TC)". The palate has plenty of ripe peach and apricot, fresh cranberry and intense grapefruit pith, with a saline and succulent finish. Interestingly made from Merlot and Semillon grapes and made in the traditional method employed for all Cremants and Champagnes. A lovely pale lemon colour, with notes of lemon, melon and gree apple, this has a fine streak of acidity and tangy citrus. With its lifted citrus flavours and its fresh aftertaste, it is ready to drink now.

Pierre Bertrand
A small family grower in the famous village of Cumieres in the Marne valley. Pinot-dominated like most wines from this village, it's deep copper/gold and wonderfully peachy and lush, explosively juicy, and cracking value. The extended bottle ageing of this wine (6-8 years) is way longer most NV Champagnes and lends the wines its weight and character. But it's also fresh and lemony which is such a great combination. Judges on a Decanter tasting panel were all blown away by this Cuvée when tasting it blind with other Grower Champagnes in 2019, giving it 98 points and one of the best rated wines of the year. We love it too and have been shipping it direct from the Bertrand family since 2008.

Chateau Gravas
Great vintage and a really good small Barsac property that is next door neighbours with Ch Doisy Daene, the excellent Grand Cru. The wine shows a lovely pale golden color with deep golden highlights. Round and well-balanced offering complex aromas of candied fruits backed up by a hint of exotic fruit (mango, guava) and white flowers. On the palate, it is ample and fleshy, leading into a silky and long finish.
